Sabiha Gökçen, the first female combat pilot in the world, was remembered on the 10th anniversary of her death.

Atatürk's adopted daughter Sabiha Gökçen who is also the first female combat pilot in the world was commemorated on the 10th anniversary of her death in Cebeci Cemetery.

Air Forces Commander General Hasan Aksay was also in attendance at the ceremony. The visitors left carnations to the resting place of Gökçen, who was one of the world's 20 leading pilots.

The second international airport of İstanbul on the Asian side, Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, is named after her.

She was selected as the only female pilot for the poster of "The 20 Greatest Aviators in History" published by the United States Air Force in 1996.
